Instead, we know a lot of people want to be given curated and relevant content in a way that’s extremely accessible. Most SaaS companies only mention their product very subtly (if at all) in their content, but using this method, you will mention your free trial natively in your body content within your site’s blog posts. The idea is to subtly point out the fact that you have a free trial, your product does X, and it ties in with your blog post because X reason. This should naturally flow in your post content.

Rather than inundating your contacts with a slew of emails about each individual product update, consider sending a sort of roundup of new updates or products periodically. For each update you list, include a large, clear headline, a brief description, and an image that showcases the product or feature. It's also worth linking to a custom page for each feature to make it easy for recipients to learn more about it.

There is always room for improvement, and one of the best ways to improve the customer experience is to understand how your buyers feel. Ask your subscribers for feedback directly based on the proper context (e.g. after they book a trip from your website or 3-months into their software subscription). Since their feedback can be extensive, you may want to provide a CTA to a landing page to collect it. For example, after a game, the Arkansas Razerbacks send attendees an email thanking them for attending, recapping the scorecard, and directing them to click a link to take a survey about their experience. 


Review platforms generally have a strong presence in organic search, making them a great opportunity to expand your brand presence and get noticed by the right people. When you encourage users to leave reviews on a third-party platform with strong SEO, you increase the chances of being found by qualified prospects in search -- without paying a dime.

Email marketing applies old strategies to new tools. Even though email is new, the basic content of an email ad is no different than the print advertising that has been around for a century. Finding ways to use pictures, text, and special offers to make people want to buy a product has been the mission of marketers for as long as there has been marketing. As such, getting a degree in marketing is one of the best ways to prepare potential marketers for running effective email campaigns.

For example, If you’re a retailer specializing in hip, modern home decor, you probably wouldn’t waste your time sending mailers. Instead, you’d target your core audience of hip, modern millennials by posting breathtaking staged rooms on Instagram, or ads when individuals search for such decor. Or you might create an exciting contest on social media (check out our guide here).

A good cart abandonment email includes a prominent call-to-action and some compelling copy to remind the customer why they should complete the sale. The email from Growlerwerks below is a good example of this. It contains not just a large “Finish Order” button, but also some copy telling customers what they’ll get as a result of their purchase (”enjoy fresh craft beer for weeks”.) It even includes a hero shot of the product in action.


One element that continues to drive the effectiveness of email marketing is the availability of high quality, relatively low cost tools and service providers. Services such as MailChimp, Get Response, Aweber,  iContact, Constant Contact and other quality service providers offer a wide range of email capabilities and pricing options. This is a very competitive market and small businesses are the beneficiaries of a growing list of new features and capabilities offered by email service providers. 

Social media is intended for conversations, not monologues. Instead of making it all about you and trying to get attention, make it about them: see where you can be useful and offer up advice where it is needed, without asking for anything in return. That is how you build real relationships with your leads, and your efforts will be rewarded with their loyalty.
One type of transaction email that’s essential for any online store is cart abandonment emails. These are the emails that you send out when potential customers add items to their online shopping cart, but don’t follow through on a purchase. These could provide an opportunity to increase your potential profits since approximately two-thirds of shopping cart transactions are abandoned.

Because there is a lot of runway left before a visitor turns into a paying customer. First, they’d like to learn more. As you further develop your relationship they’re eventually be ready to buy. Use this button text to provide more information to a potential buyer.
In order to sell, you need to convert and the key to email conversions is to nurture them using content. Like #2 above, the key lies in email list segmentation however, it helps to know what type of  content to use at each stage of the sales process. Once you nail that, your nurturing efforts will be much more effective and, your overall conversion rates will increase.
